Here in the United States, July 4 is when we celebrate our independence from British rule. On this day in the year 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed by all thirteen colonies, listing a litany of despotic offenses by the king of England.
But what this day reminds me most of, as a new believer, is of our declaration of independence from the shackles of sin, and of the world. We are no longer stuck in the miry clay, nor blinded by the ruler of this world to think there’s nothing more to life. With Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for us, we have freedom and purpose…and the best destination ever at the end of our travels here on earth!
The ultimate Independence Day is the day you get on your knees and surrender it all to Jesus as your Lord and Savior, with every fiber of your being, heart and soul…and from that moment on, He will transform your life. I and billions before me can testify to that!
If you’re still trapped, shackled, and blinded by the illusions of hopelessness, pointlessness, and existential dread, know that Jesus will blast through them with His searing light of truth. Walk this way to freedom…your independence day is today, the first day of the rest of your life!
