If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. -Hebrews 10:26-27 (NIV)
I used to be like so many people I know: I considered myself open minded, except to Christianity. Other religions, it seemed, were more palatable to me, like Judaism, Islam, Zoroastrianism, or Buddhism.
Anything but Jesus.
Why the prejudice? I believe it is the same reason why nonbelievers around us won’t accept Jesus: because they don’t really see our fruit. They don’t really see how different we are from them.
And, if nothing else, we believers can come off as preachy hypocrites. Not great testimony, nor carrying His light to draw others from the darkness!
Even nonbelievers know of Jesus’ saving work on the cross. But do His followers show them the transformative work He has made in their hearts and lives?
If we are to do our part in the Great Commission–to make Him known to all the corners of the earth–we must walk the walk, and talk the talk. Our actions must match our words, which should all come as fruit from the Spirit within.
Let’s reexamine and correct our walk to show others that there is but one way: Jesus!
