The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. -Romans 13:12 (NIV)
The recent “Iron Man” films, based on the comic book series of the same name, shows a man who dons a metal suit that grants him superhuman abilities, like flight, super strength, physical protection, enhanced perception of the environment around them, and so on. A person could, with proper training, don the Iron Man suit and face down otherwise impossible opposition.
In short, such a suit multiplied and enhanced the wearer’s capabilities to become supernaturally formidable among normal, non-suit-wearing people. That suit could even go into auto-pilot mode and transport you when you didn’t have the strength.
Clothe yourself in Christ
We believers have supernaturally powered armor: the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:11-18)! This armor, which has offensive and defensive capabilities, enables us to overcome anything that faces us:
- Belt of Truth
- Breastplate of Righteousness
- Gospel of Peace (fitted to the feet for readiness)
- Shield of Faith (to extinguish Satan’s flaming arrows)
- Helmet of Salvation
- Sword of the Spirit
We are equipped to serve, to glorify, to help win the lost, and to face down evil anywhere we find it. And when we don’t have the strength of our own to even walk, Christ will carry us once more.
We are children of the One True King, more than conquerors, equipped with the armor of light and the Sword of the Spirit. We have the God of angel armies reinforcing us on all sides. We walk the truth, and traverse the only path to salvation.
We are true believers, and Iron Man’s got nothing on us.
