So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. -Revelation 3:16 (NKJV)
Ever played a broken vinyl record? The same few notes play over and over again, never progressing…and the needle, no matter how sharp, will get worn and eventually broken. It’s stuck in an overplayed groove.
In the 1993 movie “Groundhog Day,” Bill Murray wakes up to the same day…every day, reliving the exact same events through the day, then going to bed and waking to the same events all over again in the morning.
In that movie, he at first bemoans his plight, but then starts to see that he can experiment in each situation by changing how he acts or reacts in them. Because of the repetition of these events, he could see how his input would effect different outcomes and responses.
If you’re in a rut in your life, where you face the same situation over and over again, maybe God wants you to try changing things up. If your life seems like a broken record, that’s no good for anyone.
It could be changing how you act or react with certain people. It could be getting out of your own way when it comes to procrastination. Maybe your devotional walk feels like you’re on a treadmill, going through the motions. Maybe it’s standing up for what’s right, no matter how uncomfortable the confrontation or friction will be.
If God needs you to pay attention to something that needs change in your life, He may take you for spin after spin around the same old notes till you act.
We’re not here to live lukewarm lives that aren’t making glorious music for Him. Maybe it’s time to cut a new album…a new groove.
