Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. -Romans 6:4 (KJV)
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. -Ezekiel 36:26 (KJV)
Years before I gave my life to Christ and He pulled the wool off my eyes and woke me up, I’d heard some contemporary Christian music. And just like with all those sappy love songs, they were just words nonsensically strung together. They didn’t resonate at all…they were just noise.
But then, just as it’s true with love songs making sense when you’ve experienced being in love, those Christian worship songs made sense when I surrendered my life to Christ. They stirred my soul in a way that could recharge me when the world was too much, reminding me to re-center my focus on the one who gave up everything so I could let everything go…and stop living how I used to live.
And so, thanks to a God who loves us so, His Son gives us new life, with new ears and eyes to live, see, and hear all the extra spiritual layers and dimensions we were dead to earlier. Thank you, Lord, for waking us up and giving us new life here on earth, and everlasting life with you when we depart!
Today’s soundtrack
“Born Again” by the Newsboys is a powerful rock anthem about the new lives Christ gave us, and how we use every moment for Him.
