He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. -Revelation 21:4 (NIV)
In 1963, Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous “I Have A Dream” speech, where he called for an end to racism in the United States. The speech was especially relevant in those turbulent years, where racism and hatred were very openly displayed.
Here in the United States, today is Martin Luther King Day, commemorating his historic plea for harmony. His speech famously ends:
And when this happens, and when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:
Free at last! Free at last!
Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!
From what Scripture shows us, there will always be disharmony when people follow anyone but God: their own selfish desires, the tempting whispers of the enemy, or other gods. This agent’s pragmatic perspective is that complete harmony awaits true believers in heaven, where we will join the Lord and true believers who went before us, free from the shackles of sin.
Till then, we are to continue our efforts in the Great Commission to God’s glory, till everyone on this earth has heard His Good Word…and those who choose Jesus can rejoice like all true believers who go to heaven, just like the spiritual goes:
Free at last! Free at last!
Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!
