Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” -Luke 23:34 (NIV)

Over the 2015 Halloween weekend, the Greater Church of Lucifer opened its doors in Old Town Spring, Texas. Naturally, many Christian protesters were outside to warn them against what they were doing.

According to this Houston Press article, the interviewed leaders claim that they do not worship Satan, and chose “Lucifer” since the Latin translation of name means “light bringer.” They even claim to not be against Christianity, and instead stress that people find out the truth for themselves.

This agent doesn’t buy any of that, just as Hooters executives will claim that their restaurant chain is a family restaurant. In truth, choosing your own way is against following Christ, because to follow Christ, you follow His way, not your own. To follow Christ is to surrender everything you know in faith to follow Him.

People may find out the truth for themselves (or the “truth”), but they know not what they’re doing in opening this place of unholy worship, and they may find out the hard way…in eternity. On the other hand, this very “church” may drive people to Christianity, just as some recent tragedies have done.

Just as Joseph told his brothers in the last book of Genesis:

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. -Genesis 50:20 (ESV)

God allows events to unfold for purposes greater than we understand, as He did with Joseph’s roller coaster life. As He did with allowing Satan to destroy everything in Job’s life. As He did with allowing Satan to turn Judas against Jesus…to ultimately lead to our salvation!

Take heart: God sees and is allowing this. And He will use this, as every other event, for the good of His children. It’s an exclusive club, and as we know, there is only one way in.
