But everything exposed by the light becomes visible–and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. -Ephesians 5:13 (NIV)

The 2015 autumnal equinox (arrival of the fall season) fell on the 23rd of September. And with it came–depending on where you live–many beautiful colors.

Tangentially, it reminds me of a Cyndi Lauper song from 1986 called “True Colors,” which, to a believer’s ears, are the words from One who loves us and sees in our hearts. A couple of stanzas from it:

Show me a smile then,
Don’t be unhappy, can’t remember
When I last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy
And you’ve taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I’ll be there

And I’ll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you
So don’t be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

He shines a light on us…a light of truth…that reminds us of who we really are, which are beautiful sons and daughters of the One True King. We are the elect.

God sees us in our finished states, not where we are now…not where people would like to judge us, or where we may even judge ourselves. He sees our true colors, and urges us to shine instead of letting darkness overtake us. And He is always there to listen. We can talk to Him in prayer, and He knows our every thought and joy and heartache.

Take heart. Let your true colors shine through, because when they do, they’re as breathtaking and pacifying as observing the beautiful and warm colors of fall.
