Together we are the body of Christ. -1 Corinthians 12:12-27
Before becoming a believer—an agent of light—I grappled with the question of my existence, and my purpose. And when you don’t have God in your life, it’s perfectly okay to think that, just maybe, you really have no purpose but to take up space and die. I used to be in that mindset, very often.
In the summer of 2013, at the age of 40, God decided to open my eyes. Ever since then, I’m still taking in all the extra dimensional layers and overlays of reality I was blinded to earlier, and one of them was my purpose here. I was here to make Him known. I was here to carry His light to the ends of the earth.
Every one of His children is called to do that. And, with the skills and talents He has blessed us with, we can do it in our own unique ways. And though we can’t see His design, because its scope is so incomprehensible to our minds, we do know that we all have our place in His plans.
As I told a fellow agent, it was clear that each of us is a very specialized gear he’s placed into just the right location in his machine, and when we start moving in concert with His other gears, things start happening. Things start moving.
Our purpose and honor is to make Him known, for He gave everything for us.
Of course, I’m not the first person to think of it like this. Check out Our Daily Bread‘s devotional video, “Many Parts, One Purpose,” which shows how we fit into a larger purpose:
