The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. -Psalm 19:1-4
Oh, what a beautiful world we live in.
How I’ve longed to see the sights only sung about in “America, the Beautiful” since I was a child. (Do they even sing it in school any more?) My imagination has always raced when thinking of spacious skies, amber waves of grain, purple mountain majesties, and fruited plains. The famous first stanza from the 1913 version is the one I know:
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
Even beyond the United States, which has so many beautiful sights, the entire world has grand vistas and landscapes to be awestruck by…but we can also be in awe of the smallest details of His handiwork around us, no matter where we are.
God is all-pervasive, omnipresent, and is loudly proclaimed—without a spoken word—by the majesty of His Creation. And to combine that with His children here on earth to carry His light…what a beautiful world we are privileged to live in while we journey back to Him!
Marvel at the majesty of His Creation
