Are you tired of being stuck on the roller coaster of dissatisfaction, where you’re excited for something, revel in the pursuit of it, then find you’re not really satisfied after all? Do you then stay on the roller coaster to chase after the next thing?
I can tell you that, especially before I accepted Jesus, that was all my life seemed to be: emptiness and striving to fill a need that I wasn’t sure would be fulfilling even if I attained it. If I had that Aston Martin, and a beautiful modern house on a private island, with unlimited wealth, I knew that wouldn’t fill that hole in my heart. And then there were some things I just couldn’t attain with or without money, like being taller. What then? And why wouldn’t I be fulfilled?
It’s all a lie…a vicious cycle.
A popular desire people have is for more money, because more money can give you more flexibility to do things you think might make you happier, like going to some destination, or buying that thing you always thought you wanted. Or maybe the sense of security you yearn for in an unstable economy. Maybe you feel that more money would give you more power and reach to glorify the Lord in ministry.
But no matter what you want and acquire, you will yearn for something else after that. That’s because there’s nothing of this earth that can quench that yearning. Only Jesus can.
And the great thing is, when you instead live to please the Lord, He has a way of taking care of your every need and desire. And as your walk aligns ever more with His path for you, you’ll find your needs and desires changing to focus on Him. You might be surprised how many things you thought you wanted or needed, you no longer care for or need! He breaks the cycle.
Fellow believer, praise God and pray your heart to Him. He hears His children, and when we seek to please Him first, everything else will fall into place as He fulfills our lives like we never have or could. And most importantly, our hearts overflow with God’s love and our desire to please Him…our hearts go from being empty to being flooded with satisfaction, joy, and security!
God breaks you free from the cycle and roller coaster of dissatisfaction, and puts you on the surrendered, victorious cycle. And that cycle, fellow agent and traveler, is supremely fulfilling no matter what our circumstances on this earth. By simply changing our focus, we can stop chasing false satisfaction in the world, and have real, fulfilling satisfaction now by pursuing God first. Thank you, Jesus, for making this perspective change possible!
