See, the Lord your God has given you the land. Go up and take possession of it as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, told you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. -Deuteronomy 1:21
The Lord your God himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will take possession of their land. -Deuteronomy 31:3
Over and over again in His Word, we see God show us how He comes through every time…if only we would trust in Him and His ways, rather than lean on our understanding!
The Promised Land, not The If You Can Take It Land
So the Israelites were delivered from Egypt in dramatic fashion in the Red Sea, and while the people are out and about in the desert, God tasks Moses to send out twelve men to scout out the efficacy of taking the Promised Land (Canaan) for forty days. Ten of the twelve come back saying, “No way can we take it…it’s a land of giants, to heavily fortified!” These men saw with their eyes. But two of the spies (Joshua and Caleb) trusted the Lord’s sight instead of their own, and saw that the land could be taken (Numbers 13:30). The key was trusting in God’s promise.
Promises you can bank your life on
Okay, so God promised you this land…so if that’s a given, then it’s a given that you can take it!
Now, many of the Israelites doubted the Promised Land could be taken, partially thanks to already being wet blankets, but partially due to being influenced by the badmouthing done by the ten negative spy reports. They listened to their eyes and doubting hearts over listening to God’s promise.
Well, the whole massive camp had to pay: for the next 40 years (one year for each day of scouting) the Israelites marched through the desert so the older doubters would pass away (except Joshua and Caleb)…and then they could enter the Promised Land. And yet, God fed and clothed them…and their feet never even got sore!
If there’s anyone whose promise you can count on 100%, it is God. And His Word will not return void. And His Word is full of promises to you, if only you will trust Him!
Stay tuned for the next installment!
