Be still, and know that I am God. -Psalm 46:10 (NKJV)
The LORD will fight for you; you only need to be still. -Exodus 14:14 (NIV)
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. -Psalm 37:7 (NIV)
There are many concepts God keeps telling us over and over again through His Word, and one that keeps coming back to me is: Be still.
Life comes in waves of crazy. Personal and professional life, obligations, unforeseen circumstances…all seem to pile on top of each other. There’s this certain background level of stress that we get so used to that we don’t notice it…till that one final straw tips us over the edge.
No matter how sophisticated our technology is, no matter how much information overload we have to deal with, and no matter how much personal stuff we have to contend with, none of it is as important as God. But we tend to put them before Him anyway.
Back to basics
The following excerpt hits the nail on the head about how clouded our life gets, and we need to make that smoke go away:
The worst part is that this internal chaos distracts me from spending “quiet time” time with the Lord. I often rush through it, body sitting but mind racing with everything I need to get to next…Even when I try to focus on God, I keep getting distracted by my own thoughts. Can you relate?

Oh Lord, You know my heart better than I know it myself. You know my struggles and You hold each hope and fear in Your caring hands. Teach me, LORD, to be still and to know that You are God.
