In order to realize the worth of the anchor we need to feel the stress of the storm. -Corrie ten Boom
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. -Hebrews 6:19 (NIV)
Ever been in a vessel that’s been tossed by raging wind and water? It’s terrifying. On water, the uncertainty and primal fear can take over in seconds. On land, the same can happen if you’re caught in a terrible storm, like with a hurricane. Either way, the loss of situational control can blind you with fear and despair.
Even when there’s a moderate wind or rain in your life, you can feel your stress level rising. It’s taken this agent years to learn that the stress comes from our flesh urge to control the situation…to resolve it or to make it go away. But often, we find that the situation is not ours to control, is it?
The truth is, every situation is in God’s hands. To stress over the situation and outcome, or to try and manipulate the circumstances to affect them, is to not trust the Lord with them, or to acknowledge His total control.
He is there with you through all situations, from the calmest days to the most turbulent terrors. And in all of those times, he is an unshakable anchor for your soul…and will show you over and over again. All you have to do is to let go of trying to control the situation and let Him show you how He will–as He has always done before, and will again–hold you steady through anything.
